In a significant step towards strengthening Ludhiana’s future water infrastructure, a high-level meeting was held with Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana, regarding the forthcoming MS pipeline laying work under the ambitious canal-based water supply project in the Pratap Nagar Focal Point area.

Ludhiana, May 16, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening Ludhiana’s future water infrastructure, a high-level meeting was held with Upkar Singh Ahuja, President of the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana, regarding the forthcoming MS pipeline laying work under the ambitious canal-based water supply project in the Pratap Nagar Focal Point area. During the meeting, officials informed CICU that the pipeline laying work is expected to commence within the next fifteen days. The executing agencies sought the cooperation and support of the industrial fraternity to ensure the timely and smooth implementation of the project, which is regarded as one of the most transformative urban water initiatives undertaken in the city in recent years.
The canal-based water supply scheme aims to reduce Ludhiana’s dependence on depleting groundwater reserves while ensuring a sustainable and reliable supply of potable water for industries and residents alike. As per project details shared during the interaction, the scheme includes a large-scale water treatment infrastructure with a proposed capacity of 580 MLD (Million Litres per Day), along with an extensive distribution network designed to support the city’s long-term growth and environmental sustainability. Mr. Upkar Singh Ahuja welcomed the initiative and reiterated that industrial development and environmental responsibility must move hand in hand. He stated that CICU appreciates the efforts being undertaken to secure a sustainable water future for Ludhiana and assured full cooperation from industries in facilitating the execution of the project.
The officials further assured CICU that all necessary measures would be adopted to minimise inconvenience to industrial operations during the construction phase. Alternate traffic routes, phased execution planning, and operational safeguards will be implemented to ensure that transportation, logistics movement, and manufacturing activities in the focal point area continue without major disruption. The meeting also focused on effective communication and coordination between the implementing agencies and industrial stakeholders so that concerns, if any, can be addressed promptly during the progress of the work.
Representatives present from the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Municipal Corporation Ludhiana (MCL), included Samriti Sharma – Social Specialist, Jaspreet Singh – Communication Specialist, Jarnail Singh – SDO; and Representing Kalpataru International Limited (KPIL) were:  Puneet Sharma – Senior Engineer (Pipeline) and Ashwani Sharma – Communication Specialist.
The interaction concluded on a positive and constructive note, with all stakeholders expressing confidence that the project would mark a major milestone in Ludhiana’s urban infrastructure development. Industry representatives observed that the canal-based water supply scheme has the potential not only to improve water security but also to strengthen the city’s industrial competitiveness and quality of life for future generations.
