Ludhiana October 26, 2018: A cake mixing ceremony was held at Radisson Blu Hotel MBD Ludhiana to mark the start of the Christmas and festive season on Friday. Guests of the hotel along with the staff gathered to mix the ingredients for the cake which will be kept for fermentation and soaking.

History of the cake-mixing ceremony dates back to the 17th century, when it marked the arrival of the harvest season. During this time lots of fruits and nuts were harvested and prepared to go into the making of the traditional plum cake.

Abhay Kumar, General Manager Radisson Blu Hotel MBD Ludhiana said, "Cake mixing ceremony is a sort of warming up to the Christmas time. Today cake-mixing is seen more in modern day context. And celebrating it as an occasion of social gathering and celebration is more relevant. It is in itself very old and so it can too be called the history of the ceremony.

"The cake mixing ceremony has become an event in the calendar when the staff really bonds with each other. Donning gloves and aprons, the ritual of pouring and mixing the wine into the chopped fruit is performed with much enthusiasm and gaiety. And the flavor of dry fruits mixing with wine is an experience in itself." Kumar further added

Amit Thapliyal, Executive Chef and Pastry Chef Amit Porwal said, “Cake mixing is done with a lot of fanfare and to get the right flavor it is important to mix the fruits with alcohol at least few months in advance. The correct mix gives the perfect cake and the fun along with it is really awesome." With the jingle bells season coming in hope the spirit catches on and we all get mixing and of course pouring.

They said, “The cake mixing ceremony began by mixing an abundant amount of colorful cherries, dates, plums, assorted dry fruits, currants, sultanas, dried figs, glacé cherries, brown sugar, mixed spices, almonds flakes and many more ingredients to incorporate together in the cake mix. Everyone present sported an apron and a Chef’s cap for the ceremony. The evening was soaked in happiness as the crowd joked and mixed the ingredients in merriment.
