New Delhi, March 27, 2014: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) today lambasted AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for misleading the nation while alleging Narendra Modi for favouring FDI in Retail. Yesterday at Varanasi Kejriwal accused Narendra Modi for changing his stance of FDI in Retail and as reported in media he said that “A few days back, when asked about foreign direct investment in retail, Modi asked why traders fear competition. If he comes to power, he will bring foreign inflows in this sector."
“Since Kejriwal was referring to the speech made by Narendra Modi at New Delhi on February 27, 2014 while inaugurating national convention of CAIT, we have been forced to clarify that statement of Kejriwal is nothing but an attempt to distort the facts as per his own convenience and for his political gains he has tried to misguide the trading community”, said CAIT leader. “We strongly condemn such an act of Kejriwal. Modi has never favoured FDI in Retail in his said speech and in ample testimony of the same, the CAIT is releasing video tape of speech of Narendra Modi
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sml2BCFm5Co). Let Kejriwal go through the entire speech and tell us at which point Narendra Modi favour FDI in Retail", said Praveen Khandelwal, National Secretary General of CAIT.
Khandelwal reiterated that traders in the country are against FDI in Retail and any political party making any attempt to bring FDI in Retail should be prepared to suffer political losses in ensuing Lok Sabha Elections.
Khandelwal said that Modi did spoke about converting the global challenges into opportunities and as such stressed the need of enhancing capacity building of small traders in the Country. He also advised that through online business the traders can access wider spectrum of business opportunities but not at single point Modi spoke in favour of FDI in Retail.
CAIT National President B.C.Bhartia while charging Kejriwal for spreading unnecessary rumours said that not only BJP but all other prominent parties have stood with traders during their agitation against FDI in Retail. He recalled that BJP President Rajnath Singh, Janta Dal (U) leader Sharad Yadav, CPI-M leader Sita Ram Yechury, CPI leader A. B.Bardhan and several other leaders have already said that in event they coming to power in Elections 2014, the current notification of FDI in Retail will be rejected. He also recalled that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley have also made it clear that BJP is against FDI in Retail.
It appears that Kejriwal has not studied the issue properly and like an habitual charge maker, he has leveled baseless and unfounded charges against Narendra Modi for favouring FDI in Retail merely to score political gains and to confuse the trading community. The statement of Kejriwal has resulted into gross resentment amongst trading community of the country. The CAIT has advised Kejriwal to follow the dictum "think before you speak".
