Sasrali (Ludhiana), Sep 18, 2025: Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Thursday conducted an on-site inspection of silt-cleaning operations in the Sutlej River, Sasrali Colony, near here.
The Ministers directed the immediate deployment of additional resources, including more special floating excavators, poclains, and JCBs, to expedite silt removal and restore the river’s original flow path.
Last week, a specialized floating excavator now operational in the area, designed to redirect the river's flow by removing silt, was deployed in Sasrali Colony by the Punjab government.
The Ministers added that the Sutlej River’s altered course has submerged hundreds of acres of agricultural fields. To remove silt deposition, the Ministers issued orders to acquire more machinery and mobilize all available resources to restore the river’s original course swiftly. Specific duties have been assigned to officials to ensure the task is completed with utmost urgency.
Barinder Kumar Goyal and Hardeep Singh Mundian also stated that this year, Punjab has faced unprecedented devastation due to floods. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, cabinet ministers, MLAs, and officials are working tirelessly to support affected people. The Punjab government is steadfast in its commitment to providing timely aid and rehabilitation to flood-affected citizens. To address the widespread impact, they added that the government has already initiated a special Girdawari to assess crop and property losses across affected areas.
The Ministers assured that compensation will be disbursed to all affected individuals within 45 days, reinforcing the government’s proactive approach to delivering swift and effective relief.
