Khanna, (Ludhiana) May 6, 2025: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Tuesday unveiled a statue of Maharaja Jassa Singh Ramgarhia at bus stand. The statue, has been constructed by the Khanna Municipal Council at a cost of Rs 12.50 lakh and crafted by sculptor Jaswinder Singh Mehandipur.

Congratulating the people on the installation of the statue, Cabinet Minister Sond noted that the construction of the bus stand had been stalled midway during previous governments. Since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) came to power in Punjab, it has been completing projects left unfinished by past administrations. He mentioned that the bus stand’s construction was initiated and completed under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Speaking about Maharaja Jassa Singh Ramgarhia’s contributions, Sond said that the valour and heroism of such heroes have always inspired us to make selfless sacrifices for the nation. He said that it is a matter of great pride for us that we inherit such a glorious legacy which is unparalleled in the world. He emphasized the communities that forget their history risk disappearing from it and added that Punjab’s history is illustrious, with warriors like Maharaja Jassa Singh Ramgarhia bravely resisting invaders like Abdali and Durani.

Speaking to the media, Sond recalled that during the Congress government, Khanna was repeatedly listed in newspapers as one of India’s most polluted and dirtiest cities but now due to the AAP government’s efforts, Khanna now ranks among Punjab’s cleanest and most beautiful cities. He also announced that in the coming years, public toilets will be constructed at main intersections, and tiles will be laid along roads to make Khanna completely dust-free.

Present on the occasion included Bhupinder Singh Sond, Chairman Khanna Market Committee Jagtar Singh Gill Ratnheri, AAP Block President (Rural) Avtar Singh, Pushkarraj Singh, Councillors Jatinder Pathak and Sukhmanjeet Singh and others.
