In a major boost to the development of Khanna, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Friday laid the foundation stone for the Bhagat Puran Singh Heritage Street at Guru Amardas Market. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 12.03 crore, aims to enhance the city’s beauty.

Khanna, Ludhiana, April 10, 2026: In a major boost to the development of Khanna, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Friday laid the foundation stone for the Bhagat Puran Singh Heritage Street at Guru Amardas Market. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 12.03 crore, aims to enhance the city’s beauty. 
Addressing the gathering, Sond described Bhagat Puran Singh as a symbol of selfless service and a towering personality. He noted that Bhagat Puran Singh, a recipient of the Padma Shri, holds a place of immense respect in society. Born in the village of Rajewal near Khanna, Bhagat Puran Singh received his early education at Arya School in the town. To honour his legacy, the Punjab Government has undertaken the construction of a Heritage Street in his name. The project is expected to be completed within six months.
Sond expressed confidence that the completion of this ambitious project will give Khanna a new identity and place it among the leading cities of Punjab. He termed the initiative a significant step toward urban beautification and modern development, adding that such a large-scale project has been undertaken in the city for the first time since Independence.
Reiterating the Punjab government’s commitment to public welfare, the Cabinet Minister said that development works are being carried out across all areas to ensure no ward is left behind. He assured residents that he would continue working tirelessly for the progress of Khanna.
Calling upon citizens to contribute collectively, Sond said that since Khanna is their birthplace, it is everyone’s responsibility to work together to make it the most beautiful city.
