Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Wednesday inaugurated power infrastructure development, augmentation, and modernization project worth Rs 39.40 crore at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) sub-station under the Roshan Punjab program.
Khanna (Ludhiana), Oct 8, 2025: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Wednesday inaugurated power infrastructure development, augmentation, and modernization project worth Rs 39.40 crore at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) sub-station under the Roshan Punjab program.
Providing detailed information, Cabinet Minister stated that approximately Rs 39 crore has been allocated for upgrading low-tension (LT) and high-tension (HT) lines, installing new wires, and augmenting infrastructure across the Khanna division, covering sub-divisions such as City-1 Khanna, City-2 Khanna, Rural Khanna, Chawa, Bhari, and Jarg. The project includes installing new transformers, replacing low-capacity transformers with higher-capacity ones, and further strengthening the power infrastructure. This will ensure uninterrupted power supply for all consumers under the Khanna division.
The Minister further elaborated that a new 11-kV Peer Khana feeder has been commissioned at a cost of approximately Rs 44.70 lakh by splitting the existing 11-kV City-2 Feeder from the 66-kV Khanna sub-station. This reduces the load on the City-2 Feeder by half, improving the power supply in areas such as Main Bazaar, Chandla Market, GTB Market, Subhash Bazaar, Mata Rani Mohalla, Jeeta Singh Ka Khuh, Peer Khana Road, New Bank Colony, and Old Bank Colony in Khanna city.
Sond also highlighted that, to meet the increasing load demand in Khanna city, a 20 MVA power transformer at the 66-kV Khanna sub-station was replaced with a 31.5 MVA power transformer, along with the installation of a breaker and incomer, at a cost of approximately Rs 3.3 crore.
Additionally, the Minister also noted that a new feeder is being developed by splitting the 11-kV Nandi Colony Feeder from the 66-kV Khanna sub-station at a cost of around Rs 46 lakh. This project is 95% complete and is expected to be fully operational by October 25, 2025. Once commissioned, it will further improve the power supply in areas such as Professor Colony, Master Colony, Kehar Singh Colony, Jagat Colony, Rahon village, and the Lalheri Road petrol pump area.
Sond emphasized that since the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, came to power in Punjab, it has prioritized providing facilities to all sections of society. The government is aimed to make Punjab prosperous in every aspect, ensuring no difficulties for its residents. He added that since the formation of the Bhagwant Singh Mann government, 90% of households have received zero electricity bills, significantly benefiting families with limited financial resources. Additionally, farmers are receiving uninterrupted power supply for agricultural needs. He also noted that in the three-and-a-half years of the government’s tenure, there has not been a single instance of power supply disruptions due to coal shortages, a testament to the support of Punjab’s three crore people for transformative politics.
During the event, a two-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to the renowned Punjabi singer Rajvir Singh Jawanda, who passed away on Wednesday.
Prominent amongst those present included Chairman, Market Committee Jagtar Singh Gill Rattanheri, Deputy Chief Engineer, Distribution Circle Sukhjit Singh and a large number of local residents were also present.
