Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond inaugurates Beauty & Wellness Lab and Smart Classroom in two Khanna schools
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Beauty & Wellness Lab worth Rs 13.2 lakh at PM Shri Government High School, Khanna, and a modern Smart Classroom worth Rs 9.55 lakh at Government Middle School, Khanna Khurd.
Khanna (Ludhiana), April 16, 2026: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Beauty & Wellness Lab worth Rs 13.2 lakh at PM Shri Government High School, Khanna, and a modern Smart Classroom worth Rs 9.55 lakh at Government Middle School, Khanna Khurd.
Addressing the gathering, Sond highlighted the significant boost given to the education sector by the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He pointed out that the education budget has been substantially increased from Rs 12,657 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 19,279 crore in the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The newly inaugurated Beauty & Wellness Lab is equipped with advanced infrastructure, including four salon chairs, two shampoo stations, two facial beds, a high-tech facial machine, skin testing machine, face steamer, head steamer, galvanic machine, sterilizer, manicure-pedicure setup, and an air conditioner for student comfort. Students of Classes 9 and 10 will undergo a two-year vocational course in beauty and wellness, covering skills such as facial treatments, bleaching, mehndi application, makeup, hairstyling, hair cutting, hair spa, hair treatments, hand massage, manicure, and pedicure. Sond said these skills will empower students to become self-reliant and enable them to earn a respectable livelihood. He also mentioned that the same school boasts an impressive shooting range where students have excelled at block, district, state, national, and even international levels.
At Government Middle School, Khanna Khurd, the newly launched smart classroom features a 75-inch LED interactive panel, 20 dual desks, a lecture stand, teacher’s table and chair, whiteboard, four fans, an inverter, and a CCTV camera to create a conducive learning environment.
Sond emphasised that the Punjab government has undertaken revolutionary steps to transform the education sector. Across the state, approximately 8,800 new classrooms, 30,000 new bathrooms, and nearly 1 lakh new desks have been added to ensure students study in dignified and comfortable conditions. The government has also recruited new teachers and sent educators abroad for advanced training. He claimed that Punjab now ranks first among states in the education sector. He further informed that over the past four years, around 20,000 students have shifted from private schools to government schools, reflecting the improving standards of public education.
Sond assured that more transformative projects, will be rolled out in the coming days.
