Khanna (Ludhiana), May 16, 2025: As part of the Punjab Government’s Yudh Nashya Virudh campaign, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond launched the Nasha Mukti Yatra in Khanna on Friday, marking the next phase of the state’s resolute fight against drugs.

Visiting Kamma, Faizgarh, and Rajewal villages in the Khanna constituency, the Minister engaged directly with village defense committees and residents to spearhead a mass awareness drive against the drug menace.

Addressing large gatherings, Sond outlined the campaign’s core objective: empowering communities to report drug traffickers to the police and encouraging drug victims to seek treatment at de-addiction centers. He urged citizens to unite with the government, emphasizing that collective action is key to transforming Punjab into a healthy, vibrant, and drug-free state. Sond praised the enthusiasm of villagers, panchayats, and youth who attended in large numbers, crediting their support as vital to the campaign’s success.

The Minister criticized previous governments for colluding with traffickers, which he said devastated Punjab’s youth. He highlighted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government is clearing the mess by empowering the police to crack down on drug traffickers, with many kingpins are now behind bars. “Our message to drug peddlers is clear: stop selling drugs or leave Punjab,” he asserted. He also underscored the pivotal role of village and ward-level defense committees in rooting out the drug trade.

To ensure victory in this war against drugs, Sond called for seamless collaboration between the public, district administration, and police. He announced a WhatsApp helpline, for citizens to anonymously report drug-related activities, assuring confidentiality for informants.

During the events, Sond administered an oath to villagers, including panchs, sarpanchs, and defense committee members, to serve as guardians of their communities and eliminate the drug menace.

Coordinator of the Anti-Drug Front Punjab for Khanna Parampreet Singh, Chairman Jagtar Singh Gill Ratnheri, senior officials from the police, panchayat, health, and other departments; members of village defense committees, panchs, sarpanchs, and a large number of villagers were also present.
