Cabinet Minister Sond hands over Rs 1.44 crores compensation letters to 120 flood-hit families in Khanna
First instalment of Rs 70,000 to be released soon
Khanna (Ludhiana), November 27, 2025: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday handed over sanction letters worth a total of Rs 1.44 crores to 120 families from various villages in the Khanna assembly constituency whose houses were damaged due to heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Sond announced that the first instalment of Rs 70,000 will be released to all eligible families very soon. The remaining amount (total Rs 1.20 lakh per family) will be released in two further instalments linked to the progress of construction, ensuring smooth and timely rebuilding of homes. He added that the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has integrated the reconstruction of these damaged houses with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). This will provide each beneficiary family with 90 days of wage employment, helping them earn additional income while rebuilding their homes.
Minister Sond emphasised that the state government is leaving no stone unturned to support flood-affected citizens. “Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed that not a single affected person should have to run from pillar to post for compensation. From damage assessment to transfer of funds, the entire process is being handled swiftly and transparently, he added. He also highlighted that Chief Minister had personally launched the state wide initiative in Gurdaspur on Wednesday, where sanction letters were issued to over 30,000 affected families.
Market Committee Khanna Chairman Jagtar Singh Gill (Ratanheri), District Planning Board member Master Avtar Singh Daheru and others were also present on the occasion.
