Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday reviewed wheat procurement and lifting operations at Asia’s largest grain market in Khanna.
Khanna (Ludhiana), April 23, 2026: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Thursday reviewed wheat procurement and lifting operations at Asia’s largest grain market in Khanna.
The Minister stated that a total of 7,43,789 quintals of wheat has arrived here so far, out of which 4,29,845 metric tonnes—around 61%—have already been lifted. He added that the state government is deploying special trains to expedite the transportation of grain, ensuring smooth procurement operations. The remaining stock is expected to be cleared within the next five days.
Sond also announced that arhtiyas who arranged private lifting will be reimbursed for their expenses, ensuring that no stakeholder suffers any financial loss.
During his visit, Sond also held a meeting with heads of procurement agencies, officials of the Mandi Board, the Food and Civil Supplies Department, and other concerned departments, along with members of the Arhtiya Association. Market Committee Chairman Jagtar Singh Gill Rattanheri and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Swati Tiwana were also present.
Directing officials to perform their duties seriously, Sond emphasized the need for a smooth and hassle-free procurement process during the ongoing wheat season. He instructed that every grain brought by farmers to the mandi must be procured promptly and that timely lifting of the procured stock must be ensured. He further stated that any issues faced during procurement should be immediately brought to the notice of the Market Committee, SDM or himself. He assured that no farmer would face inconvenience during the procurement season and that the entire process would be completed efficiently.
Sond mentioned that the wheat procurement season is proceeding smoothly. He added that led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is committed to ensuring that farmers, arhtiyas, and labourers do not face any difficulties in mandis across the state.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, he stated that every grain brought by farmers will be procured and timely lifting will be ensured through coordinated efforts.
