Punjab government committed to transforming state into a sports hub, says Bains

Ludhiana, August 11, 2025: Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Monday inaugurated the Punjab Infinity Badminton at GRD Academy, Ludhiana. He expressed confidence that the platform would nurture future badminton champions from Punjab.
Addressing the media, Bains highlighted the Punjab Government’s concerted efforts to foster a robust sports culture and guide young talent from grassroots to global podiums. He reiterated the government’s commitment to realizing the vision of a vibrant, progressive “Rangla Punjab,” as envisioned by the state’s freedom fighters. Emphasizing the abundance of talent in Punjab, he stressed the need for enhanced infrastructure and facilities, which the state government is actively providing to empower athletes.
Bains underscored that promoting sports among youth is a key strategy to combat drug abuse and mobile addiction, fostering healthier lifestyles. He cited initiatives like the development of sports grounds, establishment of sports nurseries, and the annual “Kheda Watan Punjab Diyan” tournament as evidence of Punjab’s rapid strides in the sports arena under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Bains described sports as a powerful tool to steer youth away from drugs and lauded the Punjab Infinity Badminton Tournament for its role in promoting the sport among young athletes. He also added that 260 students from the state government schools qualified in the prestigious JEE (Mains) exam, 44 cleared JEE Advanced and 800 students cleared NEET exam, a testament to the quality education being imparted in the government schools.
