Sahnewal (Ludhiana), April 8, 2026: Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Wednesday formally initiated the wheat procurement at the Sahnewal grain market, reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment to purchasing every grain of farmers’ produce.
Issuing strict directions to officials, the Minister emphasized the need for immediate procurement and prompt lifting of wheat stocks. He stressed that farmers should not face any inconvenience at the mandis and assured that all necessary arrangements have been put in place.
Mundian appealed to farmers to bring dry wheat to the markets to facilitate smooth procurement operations and avoid any delays. He further stated that the government has made comprehensive arrangements across grain markets to ensure hassle-free operations.
Cabinet Minister Mundian informed that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat has been fixed at Rs 2,585 per quintal. To ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience, elaborate arrangements for gunny bags (bardana) have been made. Regarding the payment for the purchased wheat, he said that payments will be directly transferred to the farmers' accounts immediately. He also instructed officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Punjab Mandi Board, and district administration to personally monitor the operations in the markets to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Market Committee Sahnewal Chairman Hemraj Raji stated that proper arrangements for shade, water, toilets, tarpaulins, lighting etc have been made for the farmers in all grain markets under the Market Committee Sahnewal.
