Building a Digitally Empowered India through Telecom Growth

Kapurthala, May 16, 2026: Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day by organizing an expert talk on “Evolution of Communication.” The theme of this year’s celebration, “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World,” highlighted the importance of strong and reliable communication networks during emergencies and difficult situations. More than 150 students and teachers from different parts of Punjab participated in the programme.
At this occasion Dr. Rajesh Grover stressed the importance of World Telecommunication Day in creating awareness about the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in social development and reducing the digital divide. He said that in our connected world, digital tools help us stay in touch, informed and prepared.
Learning to use technology wisely makes communities stronger and more ready for challenges. From online learning to emergency alerts, digital lifelines keep people safe and supported.
Dr. Grover further highlighted the rapid development of mobile communication networks and the growing need for faster data transfer and secure communication systems in today’s digital world.
Dr. Rohit Singh from Electronic and Communication Department,  NIT Jalandhar  delivered a keynote address on this occasion. During his lecture, he explained the journey of communication technology from traditional landline phones to today’s advanced wireless and internet-based systems. He spoke about the importance of strong digital infrastructure during emergencies and disruptions. Dr. Rohit also discussed the development of communication technologies, including the shift from analog systems to modern 5G and fiber-optic networks. He explained how digital communication tools and internet-based applications have become essential for businesses, education, healthcare, and public safety during critical situations.
