Chandigarh, February 1, 2026: Former Education Minister and Congress MLA Pargat Singh on Sunday criticised the Union Budget, terming it “blank for Punjab and visionless for the country.” He alleged that Punjab has once again been ignored, with no meaningful provisions for the state’s development.

Singh said Budget 2026 lacks long-term planning and a clear roadmap for national growth, calling it an “average budget” without vision.

Referring to market reaction, he said the Sensex fell by nearly 2,200 points after the Budget presentation, which he described as an indication of its visionless nature. “Such a sharp fall usually occurs during emergencies or global conflicts,” he added.

Singh further alleged that despite the Prime Minister’s visit to Punjab on the day of the Budget, no special allocation was announced for the state. He claimed the visit was aimed at voter polarisation rather than addressing Punjab’s issues.

Raising concerns over farmers and agriculture, Singh said the Budget offers nothing for Punjab’s farming community. He added that the state required a substantial package after floods, but no attention was paid, terming the absence of any long-term plan for Punjab as condemnable.
