Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project: MP Seechewal, Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Chief Dr Gupta hold review meeting
Directions issued to act strict against dumping of cow dung in Dariya
Ludhiana, April 7, 2026: With the state government led by Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Singh Mann making unwavering efforts to rejuvenate Buddha Dariya, Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal alongwith Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta held a review meeting under the project at MC Zone D office on Tuesday.
During the meeting, emphasis was given to stop the flow of cow dung into the Dariya, for which directions were issued to Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to take action against the violators and snap the power connections of the dairy units from where cow dung is dumped in the Buddha Dariya.
MC Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar, Joint Commissioner Amanpreet Singh, Councillor Indu Munish Shah, SE Ekjot Singh among officials of PPCB, PWSSB, PSPCL, PEDA etc were present in the meeting. The contractor hired for door to door lifting of cow dung from dairy complexes was also present in the meeting.
Further, the concerned officials of PEDA were also directed to speed up the process to install bio-gas plants in Haibowal and Tajpur road dairy complexes.
MP Seechewal stated that a 'Seechewal Model' pond has also been established in Haibowal Dairy complex. The aim is to stop the flow of cow dung into the effluent treatment plants (ETP), so that the plant could work efficiently. Further, the contractor hired for door to door lifting of cow dung from the dairy complexes has also started deploying carts in the dairy complexes to streamline the lifting process.
Meanwhile, the officials of PPCB and MC were directed to keep a strict vigil on the dyeing units, to ensure that untreated industrial waste is not dumped into the Buddha Dariya or sewer lines of the civic body. Also, the PPCB officials should ensure that the directions issued by the NGT in context with the dyeing industry should be complied with at every point of time.
Apart from issuing strict directions to the concerned officials, MP Seechewal and Mayor Inderjit Kaur also appealed to the residents that they should also support the authorities and stop dumping waste in the Buddha Dariya, which holds religious and historic importance. They stated that the goal to rejuvenate 'Buddha Dariya' cannot be achieved without active support of the residents.
Earlier, MP Sant Seechewal had also conducted inspections in Haibowal and Tajpur road dairy complexes and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials.
