Review meeting held in presence of DC and MC Chief; Officials directed to take strict action over dumping of cow dung and untreated industrial waste in Buddha Dariya
Ludhiana, November 27, 2025: Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal along with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Himanshu Jain and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal reviewed the progress under Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation project on Thursday.
The meeting was held at MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar wherein MP Seechewal directed the concerned officials of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board (PWSSB) to ensure proper functioning of sewer treatment plants (STP) and effluent treatment plants (ETP). Further, directions were also issued to fix responsibility of concerned officials in case of any negligence.
Representatives of Haibowal dairy complex and Tajpur road dairy complex were present in the meeting. They were directed to stop dumping waste in the Buddha Dariya otherwise strict action would be taken against them. Feedback was also taken from the dairy owners.
MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh, SE Harpreet Singh, SE (PWSSB) Parul Goyal among other officials of PWSSB, civic body, PPCB, PEDA etc were present in the meeting.
MP Seechewal stated that the civic body officials have assured that only one or two points are left where work is going on and all the sewer inflow points in the Buddha Dariya would be blocked by Dec 10. Further, the district administration has also been directed to complete the demarcation survey of the Dariya at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the concerned officials have been directed to take strict action against dumping of cow dung and untreated industrial waste in the Buddha Dariya.
Reiterating the commitment of the state government led by Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Singh Mann, MP Seechewal stated that all efforts are being made to reduce pollution in the Dariya and 160 TDS level was witnessed at Sangat Ghat point of Buddha dariya on Thursday too. But the residents should also do their bit and stop dumping waste in the dariya, which also holds religious and historic importance.
MP Seechewal stated that there is dire need to make collective efforts for saving the water bodies and environment for the coming generations. The residents should support the authorities in achieving this target.
