Ferozepur, August 22, 2025: Even as they keep a relentless vigil to guard the nation’s frontiers, the Border Security Force (BSF) has stepped beyond its call of duty to extend a lifeline to residents of border villages battling flood fury. With fields submerged and homes cut off by the overflowing Sutlej, the Seema Praharis – the sentinels of the border – have taken on the additional role of rescuers and relief providers.
BSF personnel have been ferrying stranded villagers to safer areas, arranging safe passages through flooded stretches, and ensuring timely relocation of families. At the same time, the force has maintained a tight watch on the international border to prevent any attempt by anti-national elements to exploit the situation.
Medical relief too has become a priority. “Teams have set up camps in the worst-affected villages to provide healthcare, medicines, and other essential supplies. We are also working closely with the civil administration to maintain law and order and to ensure the safety and welfare of the rural population,” BSF officials said.
ADMINISTRATION SHIFTS SCHOOLS TO ONLINE MODE IN FLOODED AREAS
In another significant step, the district administration has directed schools in the flood-hit zones to move classes online. Deputy Commissioner said that teachers have been instructed to prepare digital lessons and reach students through online platforms. Villages including Dhira Ghara, Nihala Lavera, Kale ke Hithar, Kalu Wala, Nau Behram Sher Singh, Dhani Gurmukh Singh, Rana Punj Graain, New Rana Panj Graain and Aale Wala are among those covered under this directive, taken as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, water levels remain high with the discharge at Harike headworks recorded at 1,51,955 cusecs upstream and 1,29,936 cusecs downstream, while Hussainiwala registered 1,22,890 cusecs upstream and 1,20,855 cusecs downstream. Sandeep Goyal SE said that the situation is under control till now.
