Ferozepur, December 5, 2016: The wait for the much hyped project related to the construction of a high-level 780 meter long bridge over the Sutlej near Village Kot Budha between Ferozepur and Tarn Taran district, the foundation stone of which was laid by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on November 18, 2011, is over now. During his brief visit to this border City recently, Cabinet Minister and SAD MLA from Patti, Adesh Partap Singh Kairon said that the construction work of this strategically important bridge is complete and only patch work is remain which will be completed within 10-12 days. “The bridge will shorten the distance the distance between the two important cities of Majha and Malwa, Amritsar and Ferozepur, upto 35 kms”, he said. Kairon, while addressing an informal press conference at the residence of Sukhpal Singh Nannu, former BJP MLA and Halqa In-charge, said that the construction work of the bridge delayed since the water level of the Sutlej swells during rainy season. “Due to rising of water level, the work had to be stopped several times which ultimately hit the work”, said Kairon denying that there was any shortage of funds for this project.
It is pertinent to mention here that this bridge assumes much significance for lakhs of people belonging to the border districts of Amritsar and Ferozepur. At present, in absence of any direct rail or road connectivity between these two districts, people have to take a longer route. Moreover, the bridge will also facilitate the movement of vehicles going from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to Kandla port.
As per the sources, overall 46.20 Cr. has been spent on the main project while 13.98 cr has been spent for the approaching roads.
