Breakthrough Innovation of visible light insect trap of ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana unveiled at ICAR Society's 95th Annual General Meeting 

Ludhiana, February 29, 2024: During the 95th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Society, under the chairmanship of Union Minister Arjun Munda, a pioneering technology, the "Visible Light Insect Trap," was unveiled. Developed by the team comprising Dr. Guru P.N., Dr. D. Saha, Er. Yogesh Kalnar, Virinder Kumar, Dr. Manju Bala, Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale of ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana, the unveiling took place in the presence of notable dignitaries including Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State Science and Technology (IC), Kailash Chaudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Dharmpal Singh, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Mhathung Yanthan, Minister of Agriculture, Govt of Nagaland, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), Sanjay Garg, Additional Secretary (DARE) and Secretary (ICAR), Alka Nangia Arora, Additional secretary (DARE) & Financial Advisor (ICAR), General Body members of ICAR Societies, Senior officials of ICAR Headquarters & Directors of ICAR Institutes. The trap operates within the visible light range, thus eliminating radiation hazards with dual insect attraction mechanism along with flexibility in installation effectively traps beetles and moths in commodity storage. With significantly lower energy consumption, it proves economically feasible and serves as a vital tool for devising pest management strategies. The institute looks forward to further collaborations and initiatives aimed at harnessing technology for the betterment of Indian agriculture.
