Bootcamp on Unlocking the Power of Data Science for Pharma Concludes at PU

Chandigarh, 27 May 2025: The valedictory ceremony of the 30-hour Skill Enhancement Course on 'Unlocking the Power of Data Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences', was held at the Centre for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (CSDE), PU.

The course was co-hosted with the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) and aimed to equip pharma students with knowledge and hands-on experience using cutting-edge data science technologies. The initiative marks a significant move toward interdisciplinary education and underlines the commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and industry relevance.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Kanwaljit Chopra, Former Dean and Chairperson of UIPS, emphasised that essential research practices in pharmaceutical sciences involve a multidisciplinary approach, rigorous methodologies, and a commitment to ethical conduct, ensuring the development and evaluation of safe and effective medications. Key aspects include rigorous data management, continuous improvement, and a focus on practical relevance, incorporating advanced technologies and digital tools. She praised the CSDE-UIPS initiative for meeting the skilling needs of the students.

Prof. Anil Kumar, Chairperson of UIPS, appreciated the efforts and vision of the course coordinator for the successful culmination of the course and assured of his support for future endeavours.

Prof. Suveera Gill, Honorary Director of CSDE, illumined how the future of jobs is in flux. Future hiring will be based on skillsmore than job experience and degrees. She appreciated the participants' curiosity to learn software skills and assured them of the curating courses based on the feedback.

Speaking at the valedictory function, Dr Vandita Kakkar, the Course Coordinator, shared that the course was a critical step in aligning pharmaceutical education with the technological demands of the 21st century to a future-ready workforce equipped with domain knowledge and data-driven thinking. The valedictory ceremony concluded with the award of certificates to successful students.
