Chandigarh, May 19, 2026: Panjab University (PU) Dean of University Instruction (DUI), Prof. Meenakshi Goyal today released book on ‘Recent Perspectives on Agriculture, Population and Environment’ at VCCR.
The book is a festschrift volume written in honour of Professor Dhian Kaur upon her superannuation from the Department of Geography, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The book is edited by a distinguished team of three geographers, Prof. Krishna Mohan, Prof. Navneet Kaur and Dr. Sucha Singh from Panjab University, Chandigarh, each bringing their specialised expertise to this edited volume.
The book includes empirical research based quality articles providing deep analytical synthesis to present contemporary scientific and spatial perspectives across three critical pillars of society i.e. ‘Agriculture, Population and Environment’.
The first section on agriculture covers fruit cultivation in Haryana, crop diversification and agricultural labour in Punjab, and irrigation and cropping intensity in Jammu & Kashmir. The second section on population includes comparison of health financing systems of Haryana and Bihar, religious minorities in India, outmigration from rural Punjab, and urban labour housing insecurity. Finally, the environmental section investigates human-nature interactions and socio-ecological resilience through diverse case studies, ranging from climate resilience in Metro Vancouver to human interventions in the Indian Himalayas and flood hazard mapping in the Ghaggar River Basin.
The book provides a spatial perspective for researchers on the three integrated themes at macro to micro scale studies to serve the interests of academicians, researchers and policy makers.
Prof. Krishna Mohan, Dean, Faculty of Arts; Prof. B.S. Ghuman, Former Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala; Prof. Dhian Kaur; Prof. M.S. Jaglan & Prof. Rajeshwari from Kurukshetra University; Prof. Ravinder Kaur; and Contributing Authors were also present at the book release ceremony.
