Book ‘Das Mahavidya Sahasranamavali’ released in PU’s Sanskrit deptt.

Chandigarh, February 2, 2024: In the Sanskrit department of Panjab University, a special lecture on Mahavidyas was held today. The speaker was Prof. J. P. Semwal, President award winner and a renowned Sanskrit scholar. Along with the lecture, a book titled ‘Das Mahavidya Sahasranamavali’ was released by the Academic Incharge of the Sanskrit department Prof. V. K. Alankar and Prof. Ritu Bala, VVBIS&IS Hoshiarpur. The book has been authored by Prof. J. P. Semwal, Dr. Shivbalak Dwivedi and Somesh Tiwari and the distributor is Shri Chandi Dham, Uttar Pradesh. The event was attended by teachers, research scholars and students of the Sanskrit department and Dayanand Chair for Vedic studies, PU.
 
Telling about the book, Prof. Semwal said, “this book contains etymological explanations of each of the one thousand names of the ten Mahavidyas.” He further told that this book is related to the Shakta philosophy. Prof. V. K. Alankar expressed his happiness that great works from the field of Sanskrit, such as the released book, are being written in Punjab to this day. One copy of this book has also been presented to PU’s VC Prof. Renu Vig.
