Blood donation meets road safety at MDU; 76 roll up sleeves

Seventy-six people donated blood at a camp organised by the NSS Cell of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) on Thursday as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan–Seva Mera Yogdan, marking National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.

Rohtak, October 1, 2026: Seventy-six people donated blood at a camp organised by the NSS Cell of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) on Thursday as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan–Seva Mera Yogdan, marking National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.

Held outside the Vivekananda Library, the camp combined blood donation with a road-safety awareness drive. Donors were provided helmets to underline the importance of safe riding and adherence to traffic rules.

MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milap Punia lauded the donors and NSS volunteers, saying blood donation was an important form of service to humanity. He urged youngsters to actively participate in social welfare initiatives.

Registrar Prof. Sandeep Bansal also appreciated the volunteers and donors for their spirit of service. The VC and Registrar presented medals to the blood donors.

Social worker Rajesh Jain, who attended as chief guest, said blood donation could help save lives. He urged youngsters to follow traffic rules and remain vigilant about road safety.

               The camp was coordinated by NSS Programme Coordinator Prof. Savita Rathi, with support from Deputy Coordinator Dr Anju Pawar. More than 200 NSS volunteers, programme officers and participants from various university departments and colleges took part.

A medical team from the Transfusion Medicine Department of PGIMS Rohtak conducted health screening and collected blood following prescribed medical protocols.        

Participants also took a pledge to donate blood regularly, assist those in need, fulfil their social responsibilities and follow road-safety rules. The NSS volunteers reiterated the message of service and social responsibility through the motto, “Not Me, But You.”

Faculty of Mathematical and Computational Sciences Dean Prof. Rajiv Kumar, Librarian Dr Satish Malik, Outreach Advisor Dr Raj Kumar, Director PR Sunit Mukherjee, PRO Pankaj Nain and several faculty members and officials attended the programme.

NSS Programme Officer Dr Manisha, Dr Divyashree, Dr Jitender Dhull and Roshni, among others, were also present. NSS volunteers Raghav, Sujeet, Monu, Yogesh, Ishpriya and Manav played a key role in coordinating the event and managing arrangements. NSS Cell staff members Sanjeev, Kuldeep and Ashish also contributed to its successful conduct.
