BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ Rejected by People of Punjab: Randhawa
Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has raised questions over the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ and the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab, questioning both the Central and Punjab governments.

Chandigarh/New Delhi, September 29, 2026: Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has raised questions over the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ and the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab, questioning both the Central and Punjab governments. He said that the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ has turned out to be a complete failure. Questioning the campaign, Randhawa said that the BJP should first look at the response to its own yatra.
He said that Pathankot, from where the yatra was launched, is considered a stronghold of the BJP. Yet, even in the two Assembly constituencies of Pathankot and Sujanpur, the BJP failed to mobilise a significant crowd during the yatra. Even at the venue from where the yatra was launched, the gathering could not cross the 3,000 mark. This, he said, clearly reflects how the people of Punjab are viewing the BJP’s campaign.
Randhawa said that the drug problem in Punjab is serious and instead of politicising the issue, the Central and Punjab governments must work together and take concrete action. He said that he has written several letters to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding drugs, gangsterism, cross-border drone activities and the smuggling of weapons, but no concrete response or action has emerged so far. If Union Home Minister Amit Shah is visiting Punjab, he should not restrict his visit to political programmes but should also answer serious security questions concerning Punjab.
On the developments at Lovely Professional University (LPU) Randhawa said that the police should have acted in time. He said the protests continued for several days and the National Highway was also affected, but the police failed to take effective action at the appropriate time. The law-and-order situation in Punjab is a matter of concern. Whether it is Chitkara University, Lovely Professional University, or any other district of Punjab, questions are being raised over law and order. The police must act promptly in such situations to prevent circumstances from escalating.
