Srinagar, April 21 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday removed its district President in J&K's Bandipora after police booked him for corruption.

Police on Thursday booked Bandipora BJP district President, Abdul Rehman Tikri and his associate Sarpanch, Manzoor Ahmad for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a woman for getting her jailed brother released.

Police also recovered the bribe money from the accused.

"Abdul Rehman Tikri, District President, BJP Bandipora is relieved off of his responsibilities as district President and all other party responsibilities with immediate effect," said a letter signed by BJP's J&K chief Ravinder Raina.

Police detained both the accused after registering an FIR of cheating against them. The two were released on anticipatory bail.
