Dharamshala: Former Minister and National Secretary of National Congress Sudhir Sharma said in a press release issued today here that in the coming municipal corporation elections, the BJP will have to give account of the neglect of Dharamshala smart city.

“Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, has given the gift of crores to the Dharamshala Assembly just before the municipal Corporation elections. Why does he suddenly remember such announcements just before the sad elections?

What has happened that the BJP government is now so kind to Dharamshala?”, said the ex-Minister.

Sharma who was also the MLA of Dharamshala added, “Dharamshala Smart City and Dharamshala Municipal Corporation are the gifts of the Congress government.

But why did the development of the smart city Dharamshala stopped after 2017assemble elections when BJP came to power in the state? A BJP government cabinet minister hails from the city after 2017, why were these announcements ignored at that period? The condition of the BJP government is like ‘Thotha Chana Baje Ghana’. ‘Announcements, Before the Municipal Corporation elections’, the public understands.”

He said that the development works which have been done or are going on in the Dharamshala Assembly and Municipal Corporation are the result of the Congress Government. The BJP government's attitude towards Dharamshala Legislative Assembly has been indifferent since 2017. He said that Even after the completion of three years of formation of the present government, it never paid attention to the development of Dharamshala. On the contrary, the development works which were going on before the 2017 elections in the city , are also hanging on.

Congress leader said, “Because of the wave of development which Congress brought to the region between 2012 and 2017, Dharamshala had the honour of smart city, municipal corporation, paved roads, open gyms, modern footpaths, parks, smooth electric system (street light), parking, many lift drinking water schemes, all due to the Congress government which was able to establish new dimensions of Dharamshala development. But the development works of the area were stopped as soon as the BJP government came in, and Dharamshala was used only to please high-level leaders of the BJP by treating it as a venue to organise events.”

Sudhir Sharma added that this act of Jai Ram government is not a new tactic, it is carrying forward the practice of the BJP party. “Wherever elections are announced, the drumming of announcements starts by BJP governments. They also take credit for the work done by the Congress. It is the old habit of the BJP. Now the Himachal assembly elections are just a year away, let us see how long these gifts of announcements are fulfilled in Dharamshala.

He said that the state BJP government should clarify its position on Dharamshala as the second capital, the Central University, IT Park, the State Football Academy and Dharamshala Bus Terminal.
