Ludhiana, October 18, 2025: District BJP President Rajnish Dhiman strongly condemned the alleged high-handedness of Municipal Corporation officials towards local shopkeepers and street vendors during the festive season. Addressing a press conference at the BJP office, Dhiman accused the officials of acting under the influence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and said such harassment would never be tolerated by the BJP.
Dhiman stated that the festive season, especially Diwali, is a time of joy and livelihood for small traders and vendors who wait all year to earn enough to sustain their families. “Instead of ensuring a joyful atmosphere, the Municipal Corporation officials are ruining the festive spirit by threatening and evicting small shopkeepers and vendors. This is unacceptable,” he said.
He further questioned the intent of the AAP government, saying, “By snatching away the means of livelihood from small traders and vendors, what message is the government trying to send? Those who once claimed to represent the common man are now crushing him under their administration.”
Dhiman criticised the civic body for neglecting the real issues facing the city. “The Corporation officials are turning a blind eye to heaps of garbage lying across the city, non-functional streetlights, and broken roads that cause accidents daily. Yet, they suddenly see only street encroachments,” he added sarcastically.
Questioning the functioning of the “Smart City” project, Dhiman alleged that crores of rupees have been spent under the scheme, but there is no transparency about where the money has gone.
He demanded that the Municipal Corporation immediately stop harassing small traders and vendors in the name of anti-encroachment drives. “If such actions continue, the BJP will launch a strong protest along with the traders to defend their rights,” Dhiman warned.
BJP District Vice President Nawal Jain and Press Secretary Dr. Satish Kumar were also present during the press conference.
