The elections for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation were held on Tuesday at the Mini Secretariat meeting hall, with BJP candidate Shamsher Nehria, representing Ward No. 2, elected as Mayorand  Prerna Guleria of ward 8 elected as the Deputy Mayor unanimously.

Dharamsala, July 1, 2026: The elections for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation were held on Tuesday at the Mini Secretariat meeting hall, with BJP candidate Shamsher Nehria, representing Ward No. 2, elected as Mayorand  Prerna Guleria of ward 8 elected as the Deputy Mayor unanimously.
The election proceedings were conducted under the supervision of Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, who presided over the meeting. Local MLA Sudhir Sharma was also present during the proceedings.
All 11 BJP councillors, along with one Independent councillor, attended the meeting. However, Congress councillors stayed away from the election, resulting in the BJP securing both top posts in the Municipal Corporation without opposition.
Meanwhile, fresh complaints alleging encroachment on government land have surfaced against four other Dharamshala Municipal Corporation councillors and one individual who is not a councillor. Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that the complaints would be examined in accordance with the law. If the allegations are found to be substantiated, appropriate recommendations for further action will be forwarded to the competent authorities.
