The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over alleged remarks made by its leaders about Gujaratis, accusing it of indulging in "divisive and abusive politics" after repeated electoral setbacks.
New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress over alleged remarks made by its leaders about Gujaratis, accusing it of indulging in "divisive and abusive politics" after repeated electoral setbacks.
BJP Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticised Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar over his reported comments on Gujaratis, alleging that such statements reflect a broader pattern within the party.
"This is not a shop of love; they are 'bhaijaan' of hatred. What Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said earlier, calling people from Gujarat and North India uneducated and uncivilised, and then pretending to apologise, is not a coincidence. This is a deliberate and planned strategy; it (Congress) has become an industry of spreading lies," Poonawalla said.
He also questioned whether the Gujarat Congress unit endorsed such remarks, asserting that the party resorts to "abusing people, pitting one state against another, and inciting divisions over caste and religion" whenever it loses elections.
"This reflects their (Congress) mindset. The Congress has become 'anti-Gujarat'," Poonawalla added.
BJP leader Rohan Gupta also criticised the Congress over their 'anti-Gujarat' remark and said, "Congress leaders have developed a habit of insulting Gujarat in any way possible to further their politics."
Shehzad Poonawalla also targeted Congress leader Husain Dalwai, claiming that insulting the public has become a defining trait of the grand old party.
"Insulting the public has become the identity of the Congress party. This is not the first time that Congress leaders have abused people who vote for the BJP, meaning millions of citizens," he said.
He also referred to past remarks by Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala calling public 'demons' if they vote for the BJP, alleging that the Congress has repeatedly disrespected voters.
"They (Congress) consider themselves above the people and place dynastic politics above democracy. This is not an isolated case involving Husain Dalwai; it has become the character of the Congress party," the BJP Spokesperson said.
Contrasting the BJP's approach, Shehzad Poonawalla said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party view the public as supreme.
"The BJP considers people as supreme, like God, regards them as divine, and sees itself as their servant," he added.
