Ludhiana, August 30, 2025: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate Central intervention to mitigate the large-scale devastation caused by incessant rainfall and floods across the state.

In his letter, Jakhar brought to PM’s immediate attention the catastrophic natural disaster afflicting Punjab, a state integral to India's food security and national resilience. Relentless heavy rainfall over the past several days, compounded by excessive precipitation in the upper hilly regions, has triggered widespread flooding across Punjab. The regions along the Pakistan border, spanning from Bhoa Assembly constituency to Fazilka, and other districts such as Kapurthala are among the worst affected. The Meteorological Department's forecast of continued heavy rainfall in the coming days threatens to worsen this already dire situation.

The floods have marooned large sections of Punjab's population, displacing families and devastating livelihoods. Thousands of acres of crops-vital to both the state's economy and the nation's food supply-lie submerged and destroyed. While the Central Government's support through the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and financial assistance is deeply appreciated, the scale of this calamity demands additional and urgent intervention.

Further, Jakhar write that “Given Punjab's strategic significance as a border state and its critical role in ensuring national food security, I humbly urge you to deploy Central assessment teams to evaluate the ground situation without delay. Furthermore, I respectfully request the announcement of a special relief package to address the immediate needs of the affected population and facilitate the state's recovery.”

Expressing confidence in the Prime Minister’s leadership, Jakhar wrote, “I have complete faith in your leadership and compassion to respond to this crisis with the urgency and resolve it demands. Swift intervention to support Punjab in its hour of need will provide hope and relief to thousands of affected Punjabis.”
