Chandigarh, September 1, 2026: BJP Punjab president Kewal Singh Dhillon today congratulated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Ankit Bidhan on retaining the post of president in the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council elections for the second consecutive year.
Describing the verdict as more than just a student election result, Dhillon said it reflected the aspirations, expectations and political preferences of the younger generation. He said Gen Z had, for the second consecutive year, backed ABVP, signalling its preference for development, nationalism, transparency and strong leadership over what he termed “negative politics”.
Dhillon said ABVP had won the PU students’ council president’s post for the first time last year and its consecutive victory had now turned the achievement into a significant milestone.
“The youth of Punjab University have made their choice clear. The victory shows that the younger generation in Punjab is looking for change and a better future and is increasingly connecting with the BJP’s ideology and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development-oriented vision,” he said.
The BJP leader said the youth of Punjab wanted better employment opportunities, a drug-free environment, quality education, industrial growth and greater avenues for development. The BJP, he added, would keep the aspirations and expectations of the youth at the centre of its politics.
Dhillon said the PU verdict also carried an important message for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. He claimed that people across sections, particularly the youth, were increasingly viewing the BJP as a strong political alternative in the state.
He said the BJP would work with full strength to form the government in Punjab in 2027.
Dhillon also thanked Ankit Bidhan, ABVP workers and the students of Panjab University for the mandate. He said the victory marked the beginning of a new responsibility and urged the newly elected student council to make addressing students’ issues its foremost priority.
