BJP MP’s statement that speaking Sanskrit keeps diabetes and cholesterol at bay totally unscientific and absurd: IDPD
Ludhiana: The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has condemned the statement by BJP MP Ganesh Singh that according to a research done by a US-based academic institution, speaking Sanskrit language on a daily basis boosts the nervous system and keeps diabetes and cholesterol at bay. This is absurd, said Dr.Arun Mitra, Senior Vice President of the organization, here in a statement issued on Friday. Such unscientific ideas are pushing the society backwards into the medieval times. Medicine is neither fiction nor a belief system. Medicine has developed based on evidence and scientific research. Propagation of such ideas by such people in power are misleading and amount to purposefully spreading obscurantist thoughts with malafide intentions. Dr Shakeel Ur Rahman, General Secretary of IDPD said that earlier too some ministers and leading people in the BJP have come out with such statements. Even the Prime Minister had given statement that in ancient India plastic surgery was so well advanced that an elephant's head could be transplanted onto the human body. Such statements which are only a belief system and not based on any evidence will hurt the scientific development of the country. Dr Shakti Kumar Prabhaker, a Psychiatrist said that such statements are purposefully made to assess and impact the mindset of the people who believe that any word from the mouth of people at high positions is a gospel truth. We appeal to all the medical and scientific bodies to oppose such obscurantist statements.
