Ludhiana, January 13, 2026: Senior BJP leader and advocate Bikram Singh Sidhu, state executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, raised serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab during a discussion with BJP Minority Morcha chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura at the latter’s residence here on Tuesday. Several BJP leaders and party workers were present during the interaction.
Sidhu said Punjab was witnessing an alarming surge in gangsterism, corruption and administrative failure, with incidents of shootings, extortion calls and threats being reported almost daily. He pointed out that Ludhiana, the state’s industrial hub, had increasingly become a centre for extortion calls and organised crime, creating fear among traders, industrialists and common residents.
“Every other day, there are reports of firing incidents and extortion threats. Criminal elements appear emboldened, while the administration has failed to inspire confidence among people. The law and order situation has deteriorated to such an extent that citizens no longer feel secure,” Sidhu said during the meeting.
He alleged that despite repeated claims by the state government about maintaining law and order, the ground reality remained grim. “There is a visible governance deficit. Corruption is rampant and criminals are roaming freely. Unfortunately, people have lost faith in the government’s ability to protect their lives and property,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Iqbal Singh Lalpura also expressed concern over the growing sense of insecurity in the state and stressed the need for firm and impartial action against criminal networks. He said peace and harmony were essential for Punjab’s social and economic progress.
Referring to the festival of Lohri, Sidhu said that on this auspicious occasion, he, along with BJP members and citizens of Punjab, would pray for the restoration of peace in the state. “Lohri symbolises the victory of good over evil. We pray to the Almighty that the evil of gangsterism, violence and extortion, which has badly affected Punjab, is kept away from our land,” he said.
Sidhu demanded that the state government take immediate and concrete steps to curb crime, ensure accountability of officials and restore public confidence. He said mere assurances would not suffice and that decisive action was the need of the hour.
BJP leaders present at the meeting appealed to citizens to remain united and support efforts to maintain law and order, stating that Punjab’s tradition of resilience would help overcome the present challenges.
