BJGVJ Appeals For Green Diwali; Requests District Education Officer To Educate Students

Ludhiana, October 12, 2017: Green Diwali should be promoted through education of the students in the school about the hazards of the air and noise pollution caused by crackers. This was demanded by the Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha Ludhiana in its memorandum which was submitted by the office bearers and members of the Jatha to DEO Ludhiana under the leadership of S. Ranjit Singh, President of Jatha. The delagation included Dr. Gurcharan Kaur Kochar, Mrs. Kusum Lata, Manjit Singh Mehram, Pardeep Sharma, Amritpal Singh, Swaroop Singh, Avtar Chhibber, B. S. Dhatt, Megh Nath, Bhajan Singh, Rector Kathuria. They demanded that instructions should be issued to the schools by the DEO in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion S.Ranjit Singh Said that the ban on crackers in Delhi is a positive step. But these crackers are being sold in Punjab at cheap rates. This should be checked and the order of banning crackers should be implemented nationwide. In fact the manufacturer of the crackers should be banned. Dr Arun Mitra – General Secretary cautioned that the air pollution caused by the crackers is a cause of serious respiratory problems. The asthmatic persons can land into serious condition. Some of the crackers produced sound up 142 decibels which can cause permanent damage to the ears. M S Bhatia Organising Secretary BJGVJ said that nature has enough to fulfill our needs but not our greed. We are destroying the nature and thus pushing ourselves into trouble.
