Jalndhar, May 14, 2023: To promote Standardization and quality in the engineering industry, the DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET) organized a BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) sponsored standard writing competition on May 12.

Jalndhar, May 14, 2023: To promote Standardization and quality in the engineering industry, the DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET) organized a BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) sponsored standard writing competition on May 12. The event saw participation from students across various departments who expressed their views on Writing Standards in day-to-day life.

The objective of the competition was to encourage participants to learn about the importance of Standardization and its impact on various industries. The participants were required to write a comprehensive standard for a product or service of their choice, keeping in mind the guidelines set by the BIS.

The event commenced with a lecture by Shri Sanjeevan Dhadhwal, who spoke about the role of Standardization in various industry sectors and how it has helped enhance the quality of products and services. He emphasized the need for Standardization to maintain consistency in product quality and safety, which is essential for the growth and development of any industry.


In his address, the Principal (O), Dr. Sanjeev Naval, enlightened the students about the importance of standards in daily life and how they have become integral to our society. He explained how using standardized products and services has made our lives easier and safer. He further stated that Standardization is crucial in ensuring quality, safety, and reliability in various industries. BIS has been instrumental in promoting Standardization in India for over seven decades. He also said that students and professionals need to learn about BIS and its guidelines to ensure that they can produce products and services that meet the required standards. He thanked BIS for recognizing DAVIET as a reliable partner. He also ensured full cooperation and enthusiastic participation in all the events and activities of BIS in the future to spread awareness about Standardisations. 

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who expressed their views on various aspects of Standardization in different fields. The students discussed the benefits of Standardization in education, healthcare, and other sectors of society. They also highlighted the role of BIS in setting standards for products and services, which has helped in (creating a level playing field for businesses and consumers alike.

Ramandeep Singh Johal, the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, delivered the Vote of thanks to the participants and the sponsors. He appreciated the efforts of the students and their enthusiasm for participating in the event. He also thanked BIS for their sponsorship and support in organizing the competition.

The event was a great success and provided an opportunity for students to understand the importance of Standardization and how it can benefit society as a whole. It also encouraged them to think creatively and express their views on various aspects of Standardization.

Vinita Kumari of BCA bagged First Prize, Diviyan Joshi of Mechanical Engineering bagged Second Prize, and Third Prize was bagged by Vansh Dogra of Mechanical Engineering.
