BIS Enforcement Team Obstructed During Raid on Spurious ISI Marked Products in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, 25 September 2025: A team from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chandigarh Branch Office, conducted an enforcement raid at M/s New Star Industries, Budhewal, Ludhiana, to investigate the suspected misuse of the ISI mark, a symbol of quality and safety for Indian consumers.
The operation was carried out by Abhishek Kumar, Scientist-D/Joint Director, and Saurabh Verma, Scientist-C/Deputy Director, under the guidance of Vishal Tomer, Director and Head of the Chandigarh Branch Office.
Despite presenting valid authorization and repeated requests, officials of M/s New Star Industries denied entry to the BIS team, obstructing the discharge of official duties—a punishable offense under relevant provisions of law. The team was accompanied by police personnel during the visit.
Following the obstruction, the BIS team proceeded to Jamalpur Police Station to lodge a formal complaint. However, the responsible officer on duty, Rajinder Singh (Munshi), refused to register the complaint, further impeding the enforcement process.
BIS strongly condemns such acts of non-cooperation and obstruction. As the National Standards Body of India, BIS is empowered to initiate strict legal action against entities involved in the misuse of the ISI mark.
BIS reiterates its commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring strict compliance with Indian Standards. Further legal proceedings are being initiated in this matter.
