Bio-risk Management workshop begins at PU

Chandigarh, December 14, 2015:  The five day workshop on “Biorisk Management Training and Curriculum Development for Higher Education” started at Panjab University (PU) today. The Department of Biotechnology is hosting the workshop at the department.
The level two workshop is being instructed by Biological/Chemical Threat Reduction Expert at Sandia National Laboratories, Ms. Cecelia Williams and Mr. Giulio Mancini from Sandia National Laboratories, USA.
The prestigious workshop is aimed at developing curricula and training a core group of scientists, who can act as resource persons and experts for training new batches of teachers and scientists in India. The workshop would dwell upon the key principles for training: design, delivery and sustainability, teaching models and teaching designs.
PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun Grover inaugurated the workshop. He suggested that such training programs should become the mandatory practical parts of the syllabi and should not be restricted to the university and institute teachers but should reach the college and school levels as well. He wished that such biorisk management training programs could equip people to fight the natural disasters like Chennai floods. 
Prof. OP Katare, Director, Research opined that such programs can arm the scientists and people as good as to fight bio-terrorism. 
The workshop is being coordinated by Prof. Neena Capalash and Prof. Rupinder Tewari  / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
