Bihar cop found drinking inside police station, suspended
An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district was on Wednesday suspended for allegedly consuming liquor inside the police station, police said.
Patna, May 18 (IANS) An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district was on Wednesday suspended for allegedly consuming liquor inside the police station, police said.
ASI Ramchandra Pandit, posted at the Meenapur police station in the district, allegedly consumed the liquor on Tuesday night. He is also facing the charge of allegedly offering liquor to an inmate in the lock-up of the police station.
Muzaffarpur SSP Jayant Kant said that the law is equal for all.
"Being a dry state, liquor trade and consumption is completely banned in Bihar. He is currently suspended and an FIR will be soon lodged against him," he told reportersr.
The incident came to light after Meenapur SHO Siyaram Yadav learnt that an ASI was consuming liquor inside the police station. He soon reached the police station and nabbed him in the drunkenAstage.
Pandit underwent a breathalyser test where traces of alcohol were found. However, the SHO said that he had not given liquor to inmates lodged in the lock-up.
Pandit, after being nabbed by the SHO, aplogised. He said that he has just 7 years service left and this was the first allegation he is facing now.
Pandit also claimed that he went to a marriage function where a group of people offered him liquor, and he drank some. He also urged senior officers to forgive him for his offence.
