BICYCLE INDUSTRY: UCPMA president to meet PM tomorrow

Ludhiana, January 22, 2013: Gurmeet Singh Kular, President, United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) has been invited to meet the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on January 23 in New Delhi.

He said a delegation of the industry under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal alongwith Pankaj Munjal of Hero Cycles Ltd. and other dignitaries would meet the PM.

He said he would appraise the difficulties being faced by the bicycle industries, adding they would sought some concrete measures by the government to save the Industry.  

He told that the issues related Central Excise Duty, freight equalisation, technology up-gradation fund (TUF), credit linked capital subsidy scheme (CLCSS), increase of import duty on bicycle and parts and separate bicycle lanes in the cities of India.

He said the delegates would suggest to the Prime Minister that “Made in India” products be used in bicycle tenders, special economic zone (SEZ) be set up for bicycle industry and low rate of interest should be there for micro and small industries.
