Bharat Bhushan Ashu directs Ludhiana Police to ensure smooth ride for residents during festival season

Ludhiana, September 1, 2021: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today directed the senior officials of Ludhiana Police, Municipal Corporation and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure a smooth ride for the city residents during the upcoming festival season. He said that as construction activity is going on several main roads, the concerned officials should prepare a comprehensive plan for effective traffic management.

Bharat Bhushan Ashu chaired a meeting in this regard at Police Lines, here today. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner of Police Naunihal Singh, ADC (UD) Sandeep Kumar, MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, Joint CP J Elanchezhian, Joint CP Deepak Pareek, NHAI senior officials, traffic expert Rahul Verma, XEN Smart City Raman Kaushal, besides several others.

The Cabinet Minister said that he has received several complaints of traffic congestion and traffic jam in some parts of the city, so the police department along with other concerned departments should prepare a traffic management plan at the earliest.

He stated that he is committed for the welfare of residents of Ludhiana. He said that we all know that under the Ludhiana Smart City project, the work on elevated road project is going on at Ferozepur Road, the work on Pakhowal Road Rail Over Bridge and two Rail Under Bridges, work on upgradation of Malhar Road as Smart Road, besides some other development projects is going on full swing.

Ashu stated that due to these development projects being carried out for the benefit and welfare of city residents, there have been reports of traffic congestion/jam in some parts of the city. He has asked the traffic police as well as MC Ludhiana to take this matter seriously and prepare their traffic management plan at the earliest. He said that the Tehbazaari wing of MC should also clear encroachments on the roads, where problem of traffic congestion is prevalent.

He also directed the NHAI officials to clear the  unnecessary Traffic hazards or barricading on roads in view of ongoing development so that people do not suffer. He also directed them to ensure that all diversions/barricading given by them is appropriate by both Traffic Police and MC officials.

He promised the residents that all bottlenecks that lead to traffic congestion in the city would be cleared on priority basis.

The Ludhiana Police has been directed to ensure that all CCTVs installed under the safe city project are in working condition so that it helps the cops in checking crime. He also directed them to depute PCR personnel at all points where traffic congestion is reported.

Ashu said that he would personally monitor and review the traffic management plan on weekly basis and no lapse on part of any official would not be tolerated.

Bharat Bhushan Ashu has appealed to the city residents to assist the Punjab government during the construction of these development projects, because once they are complete, it would benefit our coming generations to a large extent.

He also assured that he is monitoring the progress of these projects on weekly basis and all these projects would be completed in set time frame. He also asked all the government departments to work in tandem to that Ludhiana city become free from traffic congestion.
