Chandigarh, November 21, 2025: Punjab cabinet minister Harpal Singh Cheema, today, lashed out at opposition parties for making hue and cry over the success of Yudh Nasheyan Virudh and stren action by Punjab Police to curb gangsterism. The minister said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government once again reiterates its firm and unwavering political resolve to dismantle every network that threatens the peace and progress of the State. He said that under the clear directions of the Chief Minister, an unprecedented crackdown is underway against gangsters, organized crime syndicates, and the drug mafia that for years operated with impunity.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab Police has been directed to adopt a zero-tolerance approach, strengthen intelligence-based operations, and ensure swift action against all elements attempting to disturb peace and public order. Decisive measures, ranging from targeted crackdowns, enhanced inter-wing coordination, and technology-driven policing to community focused de-addiction initiatives, are
being executed across the state.
The cabinet minister revealed that from April 6, 2022 to November 18, 2025, the state police has registered as many as 310 FIRs against its stern action against gangsters. He added that during these activities, more than 300 criminals survived injuries, 30 were neutralised while 3 police personnel were martyred and 30 others were injured. He said that during these operations, 511 pistols, 43 rifles were recovered apart from other weapons.
Cheema said gangsters are the product of Akali-BJP government while Congress government provided them shelter for their personal interests. He added that the Congress Government lodged gangster Mukhtar Ansari at Ropar Jail in a petty case to use him against political rivals. He said that in the same way, Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi threatening opposition party leaders and common people on the behest of BJP.
