Bhagwant Mann Should Resign as Chief Minister on Moral Grounds After Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s Decision: Sukhjinder Randhawa
An unprecedented incident in Punjab’s history where a sitting Chief Minister has been given a religious punishment
After forensic examination of the viral video, Sri Akal Takht Sahib declares CM Mann anti-Panthic
Chandigarh, June 15, 2026: Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, said that the declaration of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann as “anti-Panthic” and a “betrayer of the Guru” by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, following a forensic examination of an alleged viral video, is a highly significant event in Punjab’s history. This religious punishment has been pronounced by a committee of five Sikh religious authorities (Sahibans). The committee’s decision is connected not only to Punjab but also to the sentiments of the Sikh community living across India and around the world.
Randhawa stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should respect the supremacy of Akal Takht Sahib, its traditions, and the religious sentiments of millions of Sikhs by resigning from the post of Chief Minister on moral grounds without any delay and immediately apologizing to the Sikh community. He said that such a major verdict against the Chief Minister is an extremely serious matter.
He further said that Akal Takht Sahib is the highest temporal authority of the Sikh Panth, and it is the duty of every Sikh and public representative in Punjab to respect its traditions, customs, and decisions. The appeal by Sri Akal Takht Sahib urging the Sikh congregation to maintain distance from Chief Minister Mann is a matter of grave concern.
MP Randhawa said that some time ago, an alleged video of Bhagwant Mann had gone viral. The Aam Aadmi Party had claimed that the video was generated using artificial intelligence (AI). To investigate the matter, Akal Takht Sahib engaged the services of two well-known private forensic laboratories. On Monday, the Jathedar of Akal Takht presented the findings before the Sikh congregation. According to the report, there was “no tampering with the footage” and it was “not created using AI.” The report further stated that the video appeared to be completely natural.
