The festival of Basant Panchami was celebrated on Monday with great enthusiasm in the educational institutions in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Panchkula and other cities and towns of Punjab and surrounding areas. The goddess Saraswati was worshiped. Kites flying was done and many more. Here's the detailed report.
HANS RAJ MAHILA MAHA VIDYALAYA, JALANDHAR
Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated Basant Panchami with Kite Flying Competition organized by Student Council under the worthy guidance of Principal Prof.Dr.(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The function commenced with Saraswati Pujan followed by Saraswati Vandana by the students of Music Department.
Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen accorded floral welcome to the chief guest Mrs.Saisha Chopra, Social Activist. Student representatives of Student Council gave a special welcome bouquet to the chief guest. The Principal highlighted the importance of Saraswati Vandana in her address to the audience. She said that the college is like pious altar and prayers are the torch bearers for students to lead them on right path to their desired goals. She enlightened the gathering with the importance of sacrifice by quoting Veer Hakikat Rai who sacrified himself for others. She motivated students to become best version of themselves as they are the significant ones in building a better society. She thanked organizing committee Dr. Kanwaldeep, Dean Academics, Mrs. Urvashi Mishra, Dean Student Council, Mr. Amarjit Khanna, Office Supdt. and team of student council for arranging such a grand and radiant event. Students made the event luminous and scintillating with their colourful dance and Bhangra performance.
The Principal, chief guest, members of teaching and non-teaching flew the kite with name of HMV and inaugurated the competition. This kite was especially decorated by the students of Fine Arts Department.
Dr. Jyoti Mittu, Mrs. Sudarshan Kang, Mrs. Kawaljit, Dr. Rajiv and Mr. Raman Behl acted as Judges for the event. Km. Aarti and Km. Anjali won first and second prize respectively in Student Category. Team of Dr. Kanwaldeep and Mr. Pardeep Mehta bagged first prize and team of Mr. Harpreet Singh, Mr. Jagjit Bhatia, Mr. Money, Mr. Narayan Dass got second prize in Teaching Category. Team of Mr. Rajiv Bhatia and Mr. Vidhu Vohra received first and Mr. Lakhwinder Singh got second prize in Non Teaching category.
The Principal and Deans honoured Mrs. Saisha Chopra with planter and special gifts made by the students of Student Council and Home Sc. Deptt. Mrs. Saisha Chopra thanked everyone for inviting her to such a vibrant celebration and for the love and warmth showered on her. Dr. Kanwaldeep gave vote of thanks. The stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Dr. Nidhi Kochhar and Mr. Ravi Maini. The members of teaching and non-teaching faculty graced the occasion with their presence.
KANYA MAHA VIDYALAYA, JALANDHAR
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-The Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar celebrated the festival of Basant Panchmi with zeal and enthusiasm. The students and faculty dressed in yellow added to the brightness of the celebrations. The Principal of KMV Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the students and the faculty and wished for the bright future of the students. Madam Principal said that the festival stands for zeal, enthusiasm, new energy, new life, brightness, joy and prosperity and may the fragrance of flowers spread in the life of everybody. Madam Principal said that this Basant Panchmi is special because the institution has got autonomy and this will open doors of learning for the students as this festival is dedicated to the goddess of learning and knowledge, Goddess Saraswati. After paying homage to Goddess Saraswati, hymns and songs dedicated to goddess Saraswati and to the festival to Basant were presented by the students and faculty of Department. of Music. The students had made colorful kites on the occasion. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of the organizing team Dr. Madhumeet, Ms. Poonam Sharma, and Rashmi Randev for the successful organization of the event.
SMD LITTLE CHAMP SMART SCHOOL, SECTOR – 2, PANCHKULA
SMD Little Champ Smart School Sector – 2 Panchkula celebrated Basant Panchami with great zeal in the school premises. The campus was decorated with items of yellow colour to mark the occasion. Students of the school worshipped Saraswati, goddess of wisdom. They also brought yellow flowers and home cooked traditional yellow coloured dishes in their tiffins. Teachers also helped them in doing craft activities related to Basant Panchami. Principal Ms Deepika Luthra blessed the students. Director Mr Naresh Gupta said we celebrate such occasions to make the students aware of their culture and tradition.
DAV COLLEGE, JALANDHAR
Havan was organized on the occasion of Basant Panchami at DAV College, Jalandhar. Basant Panchami is considered to be the day of Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Saraswati has been recognized as the goddess of education. That is why havan was organized in the premises of college.
"Tamso Ma Jyoturgamay" i.e. "to move towards the light of knowledge leaving behind tge darkness of nescience." Keeping in mind great culture and tradition of India, DAV College Jalandhar organized a havan yagya. On this occasion, Principal Dr.SK Arora, Staff members participated in the Havan Yagya and prayed for setting new dimensions of education in this session.
The college principal Dr. Sanjeev kumar Arora welcomed the students and told them the significance of the Basant Panchami festival and said that with the arrival of spring season, tge whole environment gets a different kind of bloom. Not even human beings but birds and animals are also filled with glee. Every morning, the sunrise gives new conscience. That is why this whole month of Magh is enthusiastic, but the festival of Basant Panchami (Magh Shukla 5) influences Indian life in many ways. From ancient times, it is considered as the birth date of Goddess Saraswati of the arts. Those academicians love India and Indianity pray to Mother Sharde to become more knowledgeable. Whenever we start a function, there is always a lamp lighting ceremony followed by Saraswati Vandana. Since she is associated with learning, education, knowledge and wisdom, her blessings are very important for a person to become a successful human being. Without education, a human being is as good as an animal. She enlightens the entire world by her grace.
Principal Sanjeev Kumar Arora said, the teaching system of DAV College is the best, through all the necessary means, the entire staff is here to help and support all students and we will try to ensure that you reach your academic excellence. The purpose of college is that we can ensure that all our students become intellectual, curious, challenging, hardworking, researcher and fertile writers.
Describing the significance of Havan ahead, he said, What is Havan? Resolving your life with bright deeds and shining! Resolving all your sin, deceit, failure, disease, lies, misfortune etc. in this divine fire. Resolve to take a new flight every new day, the new dream of every new night! In that God's fire, the determination to be made by making a sacrifice in itself, the determination to set its flame in that divine flame, and emancipation from the sorrows of this world, and the resolve to be free as fire. Haven is the key to success. Haven is the path to salvation, the way to meet God. They said that the fact is that the yagya makes the air clean, which makes our conscience beautiful and the age long. We should follow the laws of nature in our life and with that we can stay close to God.
Finally, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Arora said, "I welcome all of you from the entire staff again and wish to wish you a part of that college, where success is not an option but a birth."

PCM S.D.COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, JALANDHAR
Basant Panchami was celebrated in the college with great zeal and enthusiasm. The entire college assembled together to pray and attain the blessings of Goddess Saraswati. It started with the children and teachers singing Saraswati Vandana. To mark the yellow colour flowers were offered by Principal Dr. Kiran Arora, to the Goddess Saraswati. Yellow was the colour of PCM S.D. today. Department of Home Science organised a cooking competition on the day. The winners were awarded prizes by Principal.
B.D.ARYA GIRLS COLLEGE, JALANDHAR
Basant Panchmi was celebrated in B.D.Arya Girls College. Principal Dr.Sarita Verma, Staff and students started by invoking the blessings of Goddess Sarawati. Students were made aware of the important events of Indian history associated with this day. Students and staff celebrated this auspicious beginning of Spring with zeal. The Principal exhorted the students to make best use of their time in order to have a splendid future. On this special occasion, the bright students of the college were also awarded for their achievements.
DIPS CHAIN OF SCHOOLS, JALANDHAR
DIPS Chain of schools at Jalandhar today organized Vasant Panchami with great pomp and show. The students of the various schools organized progammes related to the Vasant Panchami and prayed Goddess Sarswati the goddess of education. The school Children enjoyed Kite Flying.
BCM SCHOOL, BASANT AVENUE DUGRI, LUDHIANA
BCM School Basant avenue Dugri celebrated basant panchmi with great zeal in the school premises the campus was decorated with items of Yellow colour to mark the occasion. Tiny tots dressed in yellow attires. The assembly of School was dedicated to basant panchmi; the school choir recited Saraswati Vandana, invoking the blessing of Goddess Saraswati for seeking knowledge and wisdom. It was a glorious sight to see the many coloured kites made by students. The School Principal Dr. Vandna Shahi congratulated everyone on the auspicious occasion and made aware the importance of the day.
APEEJAY SCHOOL, RAMA MANDI, JALANDHAR
Apeejay School, Rama Mandi , Jalandhar celebrated Basant Panchami with great zeal and zest . Students of kindergarten adorned themselves in yellow attire and brought yellow coloured eatables and snacks.
In the special assembly organized on the occasion, students sang bhajan , dedicated to goddess saraswati and presented dance performances.
Students from classes I to VIII enjoyed kite flying too creating a colourful and panoramic view of the sky.
Principal Mrs. S.V.S. Bhandari wished students on the occasion and blessed them to soar high in the sky like the kites that soar high where sky is the limit.
CT GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS, JALANDHAR
Basant Panchami was celebrated at CT Group of Institutions with great fervor. The excitement of the festival was visible among the children of CT Public School as they entered the school with colourful kites. The management, students and teachers flew kites together. The teachers reminisced their yesteryears with fun and nostalgia.
Principal Mrs. Suman Rana acquainted the children with the importance of the festival. In her address to the children, she said that it was mostly a north Indian festival and was about celebrating the positivity that spring brings with it – a sense of hope. She sensitized the students teaching them tolerance towards different religions.
Marking this occasion, the department of Hotel Management, CT Group of Institutions Shahpur took the blessings of Goddess Saraswati by doing Saraswati Puja.
S. Charanjit S Channi, Chairman CT Group said that there is so much more to this day, than just asking for last minute blessings. Saraswati Puja, he said, coincides with Basant Panchmi, the first day of spring and it’s also observed as the day of birth of the Goddess. He wished everyone a prosperous Basant Panchmi and celebrated the fest with school children.
