Bar Association Elections in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh on Sept 11; Bar Council Extends Key Deadlines

The annual elections for office-bearers of Bar Associations across Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh will be held on September 11, 2026, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana announced on Thursday.

Rohtak/Chandigarh, August 6, 2026: The annual elections for office-bearers of Bar Associations across Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh will be held on September 11, 2026, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana announced on Thursday.

As a one-time measure, the Bar Council has extended several election-related deadlines in view of the ongoing Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) agitation in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, and after considering representations from advocates and the Joint Action Committee of LADC.

According to the revised schedule, the last date for submission of the mandatory affidavit/undertaking under Rule 6(B)(i) and clearance of annual subscription/dues has been extended to August 12, 2026, up to 5:00 pm. Members may deposit the subscription through RTGS, NEFT, UPI, Demand Draft or Cheque.

The deadline for appointment of Returning Officers/Election Committees has been extended to August 14, 2026 (5:00 pm), while the final voter list is also required to be finalised and forwarded to the Bar Council by August 14.

The audit report will now be displayed on August 20, while the final voter list will be displayed on the notice board on August 21.

Dr. Vijender Singh Ahlawat, Chairman of the Ad hoc Election Committee, Haryana, and former Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, said the decision was taken by the Election Committees and the Executive Committee of the Bar Council during its meeting held on Thursday.

Dr. Ahlawat said submission of the affidavit/undertaking along with the entry number in the Notary's Register is mandatory for all members. He added that advocates must also clear their annual subscription and all dues up to June 30, 2026, on or before August 12 (5:00 pm) to be eligible to contest the elections and cast their votes in the Bar Association elections scheduled for September 11, 2026.
