Chandigarh, July 12, 2013: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the Padam Shree Dr. Dhanwant Singh Grewal, a noted eye surgeon, who passed away at Patiala after a brief illness on Thursday evening.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described Dr. Dhanwant Singh as an accomplished eye surgeon who performed countless surgeries with utmost precision and diligence during his long career spanning over 60 years.  Dr. Dhanwant Singh was a great personality, committed to the welfare of poor and unprivileged, for which he often organized free eye treatment camps across the state with missionary zeal.  He was indeed, a guiding spirit for several upcoming doctors and surgeons in the field of ophthalmology not only in the country but abroad also.     

Badal shared his heart-felt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, friends and relatives and prayed to the Almighty to give courage to bear this huge loss in this hour of grief and grant peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed grief over the demise of veteran and renowned Ophthalmologist of the region Padma Shri Dhanwant Singh Grewal (87), who passed away on Thursday night after a prolonged illness at Patiala. In a condolence message, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Grewal’s contribution in the field of Ophthalmology and eye surgery would always be remembered. Expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, he prayed to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear this irreparable loss.

The cremation ceremony would take place at Cremation Ground at Badungar at 11am on Friday.
