Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrated by organising plantation drive 

Chandigarh, July 16, 2022: Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by organising a plantation drive on today at 10:30 am. vice-chancellor of Panjab University Prof. Raj Kumar inaugurated the event by planting a sapling of ‘peepal tree’ (Ficus religiosa).  He was welcomed by Dr. Jadab Sharma with a bouquet of flowers. He also welcomed the Secretary to Vice-chancellor Prof. Kashmir Singh and Dean of the Students’ Welfare Prof. Jagtar Singh who also planted a sapling each. In this occasion, a total of 75 saplings were planted also to commemorate the `paryavarn diwas’. All the faculty members and staff members of centre for nanoscience and nanotechnology and a large number of students were present. Staff members of Centre for Public Health, NSS and NCC volunteers actively participated in the plantation drive which was facilitated by the Horticulture Department, Panjab University.

Prof. Raj Kumar encouraged the participants by explaining the importance of plantation and motivated the faculty members and students to adopt the trees to fight the climate change and to help achieving the zero carbon emission goal of central government of India under the able leadership of honourable prime minister Narendra Modi ji. He appreciated the effort of Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for the special plantation drive and suggested to plant more. He explained how it gives immense satisfaction to see a sapling grow into a large tree by his own experience. He also advised them to promote clean and green environment and contribute to the society by devoting their knowledge to find technological solutions for the burning issues of the society. He also advised students to develop technology and bring out innovative products. Later he visited the research laboratories of the centre and provide valuable suggestions for further improvement. He suggested students to develop good research attitude from the very beginning of their joining to the degree programme. 5 different species of trees i.e. Gulmohar (Delonix regia), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Peepal (Ficus religiosa), Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), and bael (Aegle marmelos) were planted in this occasion.
