Ludhiana, August 7, 2019: One Day Awareness Program on Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC)-2017 was organized in Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana on Wednesday.

Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) which is now mandatory in the buildings having connected load of 100kW or greater or a contract demand of 120kV.
For the effective implementation of ECBC, Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) with the support of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) initiated the Capacity Building Training Programs which are being organized through ELA green buildings & infrastructure consultants at various locations in the state of Punjab for all Urban Local Bodies, Department of Architecture and Town Planning, Improvement Trusts, Builders, Developers etc. Sh. Anupan Nanda, Senior Manager, PEDA was the chief guest of the program and emphasized on the smooth implementation of the ECBC which will ensure construction of energy efficient buildings resulting reduction in electrical demand by 30-40% in the buildings. With about 1 billion m2 of commercial buildings yet to be built, there is huge potential of energy consumption.

While welcoming galaxy of guests to the prenicts of GNDEC, Dr. Sehipal Singh, Principal said that ECBC was the need of the hour. He also informed that Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College has introduced Bachelor of Architecture Course from current session and this course was receiving the same overwhelming enthusiastic response as was being received by other programs being run by the college.

Anupam Nanda, Sr. DM, PEDA, Ludhiana inaugurated the event. Sh. Sanjay Goel, Chairman, IIA Ludhiana , Daljit Raheja, Chairman, Punjab Chapter Council of Engineers & Valuers, Sh.H.S. Sekhon, Coordinator, CoEV were the Guest of Honour for the program. They talked about the need of energy conservation in buildings and focused that every individual shall be responsible enough to save energy at individual level then only the schemes of the government will be effective.

Navneet Arora, from ELA green buildings & infrastructure consultants talked about the compliance procedure of ECBC and mentioned that this code is mandatory to be complied for all the commercial buildings while approval of building plans.

Dr. Arvind Dhingra, Executive Director –STEP, GNDEC proposed vote of thanks.

This training programme has been attended by officials from Govt. Departments, Architects, Builders, Hotel Facility staff, Institutions from Ludhiana. The objective of such training programmes is to create ECBC Design Professionals in the state of Punjab.
