Authentic navratri dishes beckon navratri fast

Mohali, October 3, 2019: A 'Navratri Food Festival' is on at 'Nineteenth May' – a pure vegetarian restaurant, located in Sec 67 here.

The outlet, which is being run by a young hospitality industry professional - Manouj Kaushikk, who has a rich experience of working in multinational hotels, has come up with a delicious Navratri fare. During Navratris, fasts are observed by many in obeisance of Ma Durga and during the fasts, certain foods are not permitted.

Manouj Kaushik, Founder, 'Nineteenth May' said, “Keeping in mind ingredient restrictions, our expert chefs have prepared lip smacking Navratri dishes; which are pure vegetarian and sans onion, garlic .etc as is required in ‘Navratri Vrat’ food. The menu has been created using pure desi ghee. A ‘Navratri Thali’ with all that one can desire to have on Navratris, is the main attraction.”

Shakarkand Chaat, Aloo Poori, Sabudadana Tikki, Subudana Kheer and other offerings make the menu quite comprehensive. The dishes have been curated keeping in mind the requirement of authentic Navratri ingredients.
Another unique aspect about the Navrati Food festival on at 'Nineteenth May' is that a separate section has been made in the kitchen for cooking Navratri Food, as it is important to observe purity of ingredients during cooking too.

It is important to state here that Navratri, is one of the biggest Hindu festivals in which devotees worship the different avatars of Goddess Durga for nine days. Goddess Durga is believed to have nine different incarnations and each female deity signifies a distinct power. The word 'Navratri' refers to the nine auspicious nights during which Goddess Durga is worshiped and many people observe fasts. The need for specialized cooking during Navratris has resulted in culinary experts at 'Nineteenth May' putting their minds to work and cooking up some very interesting and sumptuous delicacies related to Navratris.
