Ferozepur, November 12, 2012: Taking serious note of demands of Elementary Teachers Union, at a meeting held with the Education Minister, Sikandar Singh Malooka, at his resident, the EM had assured to take care of main demands of the union, within a period of one month, said Harjinder Singh Handa, state president of the Union.
The Elementary Teachers Union had been protesting for the acceptance of their demands for the last six years but the Punjab Government had been backing out from its commitments which include the latest one as 25 per cent direct recruitment of administrative posts in primary schools and demanded for lifting the ban on 25 per cent direct recruitment. In the meetings, the concurrence is shown towards our demands but later on, step-motherly treatment is given to the primary school teachers.
While the demands of employees of all the departments are being fulfilled by SAD-BJP government in Punjab, the demands of Elementary Teachers Union would also be acceded to shortly.
Harjinder Singh Handa, state president said, “A meeting had been held with the Education Minister and now the primary teachers are fully hopeful of accepting of their main demands”.
He further said, “Because of Punjab state level command of different teachers union in the hands of secondary teachers, the secondary education department are pleasing its different categories of teachers and at the same time, primary teachers were always discriminated and ignored”.
At the time of implementing the recommendations of 5th Pay Commission, during the last term of Akali-BJP government, the primary teachers were being ignored but now with the successful meeting with the EM, there is also now a ray of hope to the solution of problems of primary teachers, Handa added.
